Writing fluency is an important skill. Children need to be able to write with speed and accuracy. The pre-writing stage gives children the opportunity to think about the topic before choosing which text to write. Options give children some control over their writing. Although the initial focus is on fluency (amount of words in a given time), it is critical that all writing is given a follow up task that can be used to build in revising and editing skills.
